"But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peacable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." (James 3:17)
I suppose it's the same wisdom to which James is referring that he first spoke of in the fifth verse of his first chapter: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally..." Why not?
"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." (Proverbs 4:7)
On principle
The Latin phrase pari passu means, literally, "without partiality". The Latin vulgate translates the phrase "without partiality" from the seventeenth verse of James' third chapter into "non judicans". Now, I'm no Latin scholar--I'm just going to put that on the table. But when one of the shades of definition of the title phrase (pari passu) is translated exactly into "without partiality", at least in a legal sense, I'm intrigued and would like to elucidate any further inroads to understanding how God would be so kind as to give us--any of us--His wisdom for the asking.
"For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death." (Proverbs 8:35-36)
God's wisdom is so important. A basic statement, that, if you have tasted or seen any tincture of such, know how broad and far-reaching it is. God's wisdom, resident in our hearts and minds, prevents misery and miserable circumstances that take years to unravel. God's wisdom will enable us to see the person in need but who doesn't show it. God's wisdom will enable you to make wise decisions both familial and financial and otherwise. You'll see with His help what's coming and know how to deal properly. And James says it's yours for the asking. God's wisdom is an unnoticed and largely (I'm guessing) unasked for commodity that has in its horizon things to which you wouldn't think it'd apply. A whole vista of revelation to which God will open your eyes if you ask. This is how.
"In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Colossians 2:3)
Principally on
One of the strongest characteristics of God is that He is judge and one who judges rightly. In walking around as a Christian in this world, one who takes after "Our Father who art in Heaven", the wisdom and understanding "that is from above" is so markedly different in its outlook and execution as to point directly back to the one who sent it. Now, whether the Holy Spirit has you testify out loud as to where you get your "wisdom and...mighty works" (Matthew 13:54), is a question for the moment. You'll know. And you'll know that God is answering your prayers for His wisdom. This is the point though: you gotta ask for it (again, please and thank you work wonders with God). James 1:5 is one of the simplest and most comforting admonitions to receive something--namely God's very wisdom--that is impossible to attain otherwise.
"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened..." (Ephesians 1:17-18)
Just ask. The scales are already balanced, if tipped, in your favor.
